On December 5th 2013, Cyclone Xaver hit the Port of Whitehaven in West Cumbria. I was there to capture the event. I’ve seen the town hammered by the sea in the past, but never before on this scale.
Harbour walls were breached, with some flooding occurring. A section of the harbour wall, near to the lock gates collapsed.
The sea cadets building (photo & video) was badly damaged, having been hit by huge waves and 100 mph+ winds. The building was subsequently demolished following another storm, twelve months later.
