The Curious Lamb

I often have a chuckle when I take a look at this photo of a lamb that had found itself stuck-fast, having decided to check if it was true, that grass was greener on the other side.

Luckily for the lamb, I was out walking, and spotted her in a bit of a predicament. After a few minutes of work in freeing her, she trotted off to her grateful mother who appeared to be bleating her thanks to me.

The Curious Lamb

One could be forgiven for thinking sheep are stupid. It’s not the first time, I’ve had to rescue one. It won’t be the last. But no, they’re not stupid, they’re very intelligent creatures. The problem with lambs is that they’re very curious, which can lead to problems similar to what I encountered.

  • In a 2001 study by Keith Kendrick, who is now at the University of Electronic Science and Technology in China, it was found that they can recognise and remember at least 50 individual faces for more than 2 years. That is longer than many humans.

Martin Amis: Only in art will the lion lie down with the lamb, and the rose grow without the thorn.
